5 Reasons You Should Make Your Own Meat Marinades
There are many reasons why you should be making your own meat marinades. Let’s take a look at some of those reasons.
1. To Save Money. You can make your own for pennies on the dollar.
2. Fast And Easy. These recipes take less than 5 minutes to prepare.
3. Freshness. Homemade marinades are made fresh with no preservatives.
4. Taste. Making your own, just tastes better.
5. Earth Friendly. You are not filling up our landfills with unwanted glass bottles or plastic jars.
Here are 3 fast and easy recipes for you to try. You can use them on meats and poultry.
Lemon and Spice Marinade
1/4 c. olive oil
1 tbsp. lemon juice
1/2 tsp. rosemary
1/2 tsp. thyme
Mix all of the above ingredients together in a medium sized bowl. Refrigerate until ready to use.
Sweet ‘N Sour Basting Sauce
1/4 c. soy sauce
2 tbsp. mustard
2 tbsp. brown sugar
2 tbsp. vinegar
In a small saucepan, mix together the above ingredients and bring to a boil. Brush on your meats the last 10 minutes of baking or grilling time.
Southwest Marinade
3 tbsp. pureed chipotle peppers in adobo sauce
1/3 c. fresh orange juice
1/4 c. virgin olive oil
2 lg. cloves of garlic, minced
1 tsp salt
1 tsp. ground black pepper
In a bowl combine all ingredients. Stir to blend. Use immediately or cover and refrigerate for up to 1 week.
Easy Way to Marinate Your Meats: Place meat in a heavy duty plastic bag, I like to use the zipper closure kind. Set in a deep bowl and add your marinade. Close up the bag and turn evenly to distribute the marinade. Refrigerate for 3 hours.

What do you think of Del Monte, Eukanuba, etc. riding the trend train?
Ok, not a trend.. But we all know they do it just to make money. Any ways, has anyone noticed how big companies have been making some relatively good quality dog foods? Del Monte(makers of Kibbles N Bits, Gravy Train) make Nature’s Recipe and Cycle Natural, both of which have a high amount of meat, no corn, and no artificial preservatives. Diamond now even makes a grain free food. And now Eukanuba makes Naturally Wild, all of which are of equal quality to foods like Canidae and Wellnes, except for the fact that they are mass-produced. What do you think?
I think it’s about time. I don’t know why it took so long, but I’m glad more manufacturers are figuring out the importance of canine nutrition–now if only they would stop making crap like Kibbles ‘n’ Bits entirely. If good quality dog food becomes more affordable and more widely available that would be great.
